Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers

This course is designed for Outreach Training Program trainers who have completed the OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry and are authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program. The course provides an update on OSHA Construction Standards, policies, and regulations. Upon course completion participants will have the ability to demonstrate continued professional development in their field by applying effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques to clearly identify, define, and explain construction industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures as they continue to teach the 10- and 30-hour Construction Outreach Training Program classes.

  • Explain significant changes in the Construction Industry within the past four years.
  • Identify changes in the OSHA outreach trainer program.
  • Describe new best practices in construction occupational safety and health.
  • Recognize current trends in construction workplaces (e.g., Most Frequently Cited, Bureau of Labor Statistics workplace injury, illness, and fatality data).
  • Locate new resources available for updating OSHA Outreach Training.
  • Explain effective methods to deliver OSHA training incorporating small group activities and exercises that can be used in OSHA Outreach courses.
  • Explain the importance of safety leadership.
  • Conduct themselves in an ethical manner aligned with the expectations and requirements of the OSHA Outreach Training program.

  • Applying effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques.

  • Students must provide their current OSHA Construction Outreach Trainer card and a completed Prerequisite Verification Form (download) to confirm enrollment in this class. A complete Prerequisite Verification Form must be submitted at least ten (10) business days prior to class. Applicants will receive notification of their approval status by five (5) business days prior to the course start date.

Notes:

This training will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, and no software download is required. Participants must have a PC or Mac computer with audio and video capabilities, and an uninterrupted internet connection. Participants must live or work within OSHA's Dallas Region (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico). Students who reside outside of the Dallas Region should verify course availability in their region prior to registration. Participants must present a government-issued photo ID to attend this training.

James (Skipper) Kendrick

Named by Occupational Hazards magazine as one of the most influential safety leaders of the last decade and as a member of Industrial Safety and Hygiene News Power 101, James ""Skipper"" Kendrick, CSP has over 38 years experience in the fields of safety, education and training.

Skipper holds a BS degree in Industrial Technology, with a safety option, from Louisiana State University. He is a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by examination. He is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.

Skipper is a recipient of ASSE's highest honor, that of being named a Society Fellow. He was selected as the recipient of ASSE's National Edgar Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year Award in 2000 and has also been recognized as Safety Professional of the Year for the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter (1985), Fort Worth Chapter (1989-90) and Region III (1988-89). Skipper also has been recognized as Bongarde SafetyXchange's National Safety Trainer of the Year.
