The course will include theory and practice of crime scene management and investigations. Other topics will include report writing, blood and other bodily fluids, document examinations, sketches, casts and molds, glass fractures, use of the microscope, firearms identification plus other topics. A study of the practical aspects of criminalistic procedures will include areas of skill development in properly interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects, note-taking, report writing, photographing, and testifying in court in the criminal justice context.
Participants will learn the historical view of the science of fingerprints and their recovery, plus recovery of foot and tire impressions, blood spatter identification, biological and trace evidence identification, and crime scene safety. You will also learn about DNA collection, preservation, packaging and storage, and the significance of chain-of-custody to ensure proper preparation and delivery of evidence from crime scene to lab analysis and preparation for a court room trial.
