  • Learn inspection techniques used for determining specification compliance of signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Analyze Contract Documents pertaining to signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Learn to research Material Specifications and Material Producer List information for signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Identify the importance of quality workmanship and compliance with specifications when Inspecting sign, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the types and capabilities of Equipment used when in the placement of signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Develop and demonstrate Inspection Documentation techniques used for signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Learn Sampling and Testing methods typically used when Inspecting the materials used for the development and placement of signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Learn Measurement and Payment techniques used for signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.
  • Develop an understanding of basic roadway design criteria for signs, signals, pavement marking and highway safety devices.
  • Gain awareness to the rationale of the use of signs, signals, pavement markings and highway safety devices.

Brett Bennett

Brett Bennett spent 26 years with the Texas Department of Transportation, serving as a construction inspector, and another 6 years as both the instructor and designer of the Inspector Development Program.  After retirement, he chose to continue his mission to educate and prepare the next generation of inspectors with the University of Texas at Arlington's, Extension and Extended Campus. 

With expert knowledge of highway construction inspection procedures, Brett has extensive experience in ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations. His in-depth understanding of the role of the road inspector has led to the development of workshops that offer valuable opportunities for those in or entering the field.
