  • Learn Inspection techniques used in the construction of a Roadway Drainage System.
  • Analyze Contract Documents pertaining to Drainage / Excavation and Backfill.
  • Develop an understanding of basic Roadway Drainage Systems design.
  • Learn the Materials and Test Methods used in shaping, bedding, and backfilling Drainage Structures.
  • Identify construction placement specifications for Pre-Cast Drainage System components.
  • Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the types and capabilities of equipment used in the construction of a Roadway Drainage System.
  • Research Material Specifications and Producers List information for Pre-Cast Structures used in Roadway Drainage Systems.
  • Develop and demonstrate Inspection Documentation techniques used for Drainage / Excavation and Backfilling.
  • Learn Measurement and Payment techniques used for Drainage / Excavation and Backfill construction.
  • Learn basic Safety and Environmental expectations typically utilized during Drainage / Excavation and Backfilling construction operations.

Brett Bennett

Brett Bennett spent 26 years with the Texas Department of Transportation, serving as a construction inspector, and another 6 years as both the instructor and designer of the Inspector Development Program.  After retirement, he chose to continue his mission to educate and prepare the next generation of inspectors with the University of Texas at Arlington's, Extension and Extended Campus. 

With expert knowledge of highway construction inspection procedures, Brett has extensive experience in ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations. His in-depth understanding of the role of the road inspector has led to the development of workshops that offer valuable opportunities for those in or entering the field.
