Intro to Hot-Mix
- Learn Inspection techniques for Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
- Analyze Contract Documents pertaining to Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
- Develop and demonstrate basic mathematic skills for Inspecting Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
- Identify the aggregate types and grades used in Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
- Develop an understanding of the Asphalts, Oils, and Emulsions used in Surface Treatments and Hot-Mix Pavements.
- Learn the types and capabilities of Equipment used for Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
- Develop and demonstrate Inspection Documentation skills pertaining to Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
- Learn Measurement and Payment techniques used for Roadway Construction Projects.
- Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the rates of asphalt and aggregate used for Asphalt Surface Treatment operations.
- Learn basic Sampling and Testing methods used for Inspecting Asphalt Surface Treatments and Pavements.
Coordinated trip to local work zone and TxDOT laboratory.
NOTE: PPE is required!
Please bring your own hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and wear closed toe shoes.
- Gain experience and perspective about being in a work zone.
- Understand the environmental challenges on a roadway project.
- Learn about safety priorities.
- Attain a stronger understanding of construction material testing through observation of live testing procedures.
- Embrace the sights and sounds of the laboratory and observe their safety protocols.
