A sterile processing technician cleans and sterilizes used surgical instruments and other medical supplies so that they can be safely redistributed and reused on additional patients. This course prepares students to clean, disinfect, and distribute sterilized instrumentation and equipment to various areas of a healthcare facility. In addition, through their externship students will work in a sterile processing department and central service department setting to gain real world experience.

This class is taught using the books and curriculum of the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA). Though not included in tuition, students are prepared to take the CRCST Certification offered by HSPA. Total Hours: 220 (60 classroom & 160 externship)

Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent, current immunizations, and ability to lift 50 lbs.

Fee: Includes textbooks(s), one set of scrubs, and professional liability insurance (externship).

Additional Cost: Required immunizations and drug screening.

Notes:

NO CLASS March 15th, 2025, due to Spring Break.
