This course offers classroom and practical instruction on obtaining electrocardiograms in healthcare settings. Instruction includes patient preparation, use and maintenance of the electrocardiograph and methods for obtaining an electrocardiogram. Students will also learn how to recognize abnormalities on the electrocardiogram. This course is perfect for the student looking to enter the healthcare field as well as the healthcare professional looking to acquire additional skills. Upon successful completion of the course the student will receive a certificate of completion from UT Arlington and will be eligible to sit for the certification exam with the National Healthcareer Association. Certifying bodies may require documents as proof of employment eligibility. All programs include HIPAA, infection control, blood borne pathogens, personal protective equipment and hand washing review.

Total Hours: 120 (80 classroom, 40 externship)

Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent, current immunizations, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.

Fee: Includes textbook(s), one set of scrubs, CPR certification, professional liability insurance, and EKG Technician certification exam.
