The beauty of a short story may be its brevity, but this can certainly provide challenged when creating a plot. You only have a few scenes to get across the power of your themes and to illuminate your characters. How do you decide which plot elements to include? In this course, students will learn how to structure a story through an understanding of scene and sequel and of orchestrating emotional beats and strong openings and endings. We will also look at plotting to reveal character and plotting as problem solving and discuss structure on both the scene and story level. Students will practice using these techniques in their own writing.
