This course is designed to assist local road agencies in making the best use of their assets in providing better and safer roads for local road users, and to promote safe work practices for road workers.

The first day will be spent conducting field reviews.

The second day will be spent in a classroom reviewing best road maintenance strategies or the specific road conditions, and safe work practices for road maintenance personnel.

Course content includes:

  • Critical maintenance practices of compaction.
  • Crack and chip sealing.
  • The use of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices in setting up work zones and directing traffic.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Upon successful course completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion from the University of Texas at Arlington's Public Works Institute
