Technical Writing Certificate Program

This program is designed to prepare the adult learner for a career as a technical writer and communicator in a variety of fields. It provides participants with advanced writing and communication skills, principles and tools to clearly and precisely convey technical information to a specific audience. Upon completion of this 66-hour certificate program, participants will not only be more confident in your role as a technical writer, but also learn how to produce useful and polished documents for a wide range of audiences and purposes, including but not limited to conducting audience and task analyses, memos, business letters and abstracts; applying appropriate rhetorical and stylistic devices; incorporating cohesive mechanisms; writing procedures and progress reports; reviewing, revising and editing technical information; managing a major proposal; learning effective research procedures; and revising their resume for an ever-changing job market that demands excellence in written communication. Courses can be taken individually for professional development or a series of 5 required courses to obtain the Technical Writing Certificate.

To successfully complete the program, students must complete the five (5) required courses and register for the Technical Writing Certificate course by completion of the second class.

  • Technical Writing Portfolio Development
  • Technical Writing Certificate

Upon completion of the required courses and enrollment in Technical Writing Certificate, students must notify the Continuing Education office. After verifying the student's completion status, a certificate will be mailed to the student's address on record.
