Instructor FAQs

Find answers to common questions about volunteering as an instructor for the UTA Senior 55+ program. If you have additional questions, please contact us at ced@uta.edu.

Who may be an instructor?

Anyone may submit a proposal to teach a UTA Senior 55+ class. Formal teaching credentials are not required. If you have an area of expertise, professional experience, or a personal passion you believe will interest our learners, we encourage you to submit a proposal.

How do I submit a class proposal?

Interested instructors will complete an online proposal form where they will provide contact information, a course title and description, preferred format, availability, and a short bio related to the proposed topic. Proposals are reviewed by the UTA Senior 55+ program team. Instructors will typically be notified of acceptance within a few weeks after the submission deadline. Submissions can be made at: Submit a proposal here .

How are classes scheduled?

On the proposal form, instructors will indicate: Number of sessions (1–3)

Format (on-campus, off-campus partner site, or Zoom)

Days of the week (Monday–Friday)

Preferred time blocks (morning or afternoon options)

We work closely with our instructors to develop a schedule that best supports their availability while meeting the needs and interests of our audience. Scheduling details will be coordinated in collaboration with the program team.

Are there any incentives for being an instructor?

UTA Senior 55+ instructors volunteer their time and expertise. Instructors who are also members of the UTA Senior 55+ program may be eligible for program-related benefits or discounts during the term in which they teach.

What are the classes like?

UTA Senior 55+ offerings may include:

• One-time lectures

• Two-session mini-courses

• Multi-session courses offered over consecutive weeks

Each class session is approximately 90 minutes and is held on the same day and time each week for multi-session courses.

Participants are engaged adult learners who have chosen to attend your course and value discussion and shared learning. There are no exams, assignments, or grading responsibilities. To see examples of current offerings, visit our current course listings .

What are the classrooms like? Do they have audio/visual equipment?

Classes are held in UTA classrooms or approved off-campus partner locations. All on-campus classrooms are equipped with integrated audio/visual systems.
Instructors may bring presentation materials on a flash drive or use their own laptop to connect to the classroom system. Off-campus partner sites provide appropriate A/V equipment as well. Zoom courses are also available when requested and follow the same scheduling structure as in-person classes. UTA staff will assist with hosting and technical setup.

Who creates the powerpoints/ presentations?

Instructors create their own presentation materials based on their teaching style. PowerPoint presentations are welcome but not required.
