Veterinary Assistant
Those enrolled in this course are exposed to all practical aspects of a veterinary practice. Participants learn animal behavior, pharmacology, safety, veterinary nursing techniques, client education skills, basic animal husbandry, wellness plans and veterinary hospital operations. Curriculum follows the guidelines outlined by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association for their Certified Veterinary Assistant Program. The instructor will cover the material for Level I, II and III testing requirements. Upon successful completion of the course, participants are eligible to take the state of Texas certification level 1 examination. Per TVMA requirements, CVA I must complete 6 months practical work experience prior to sitting for CVA Level II examination. Likewise, CVA II must also complete 6 months practical work experience prior to sitting for CVA Level III examination.Total Hours: 500 (200 classroom + 300 externship)
Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent, current immunizations, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Tuition includes: textbook(s), one set of scrubs, placement into a veterinary site for clinicals, and CVA Level I certification exam.
