OSHA/Joint Commission Healthcare Safety Overview & Crosswalk

This course is designed to enable the participant to evaluate the readiness of a healthcare organization to pursue accreditation by the Joint Commission. Through the use of 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards, the participant is lead through a crosswalk of OSHA Standards and Joint Commission Accreditation Manual Chapters covering Environment of Care (EC), Emergency Management (EM), Life Safety (LS) and Infection Control (IC). In addition, where applicable, references are made to provisions of the Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) conditions of Participation (CO-OP).

This course also investigates the numerous agencies, funding sources, investors and interest groups who contribute to regulatory and compliance requirements. Case studies are used to highlight & direct participant activities and to provide areas to investigate when returning to their home facility. The participant is an electronic toolkit containing a copy of the Joint Commission Crosswalk publication as well as other OSHA documents to be used in development of an institution-wide accreditation plan.

This course is available for 9.6 Contact Hours of Nursing Continuing Education.
