Scaffolding Safety for the Competent Person

This three day course is designed for personnel who may be designated as the Competent Person by their employer for typical construction-related scaffolding erection, use, maintenance, and dismantling activities. It is also recommended for any construction, maintenance, or supervisory personnel involved with scaffolding or who will be responsible for safety at their job sites where scaffolding is used. Topics include: hazard recognition, evaluation, and control; construction exposures and applications; detailed review of scaffolding regulations and requirements; types of scaffolding and associated hazards and requirements to include Aerial Lifts; eliminating and controlling hazards to include fall protection, falling objects, scaffold collapse, and electrocutions; conducting hazard surveys and inspections; access and egress; safety procedures, training; and incident investigations. Training includes active participation with hands-on activities and demonstrations.


Prerequisites: OSHA #500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction, OSHA #501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry, or ATP 191 Safety & Health Authorized Trainer. This course satisfies the requirements of OSHA, ANSI, and USACE 385-1-1.
