A sterile processing technician cleans and sterilizes used surgical instruments and other medical supplies so that they can be safely redistributed and reused on additional patients. This course prepares students to clean, disinfect, and distribute sterilized instrumentation and equipment to various areas of a healthcare facility. In addition, through their externship students will work in a sterile processing department and central service department setting to gain real world experience.

This class is taught using the books and curriculum of the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA). Though not included in tuition, students are prepared to take the CRCST Certification offered by HSPA. For more information, including registering for the exam, click here to visit the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association's website.

Classroom hours: 60
Tuition includes: textbooks(s), Health Careers Institute ID badge, one set of scrubs, drug test and CPR training.
Orientation: held on the first day of class. We will go over everything you need to submit, as well as discuss externship placement at this time.

PLEASE NOTE:
Sterile Processing Technician participants are not required to complete an externship in order to be eligible for certification.
As a result, externships are no longer assigned as part of the program. Participants will develop the required skills through structured classroom instruction aligned with certification standards.
