Course Description

This SHRP2 National Traffic National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training based course provides first responders with the knowledge needed to ensure a well-coordinated response to traffic incidents that achieves faster clearance and improces safety for both responders and motorists.

Texas' population and economic growth have significantly increased the number of vehicles, especially commercial vehicles, on its roads. This results in an increase in primary incidents, which in turn heightens the chance of secondary incidents. These secondary incidents can be as deadly and destructive as the initial situation. An appropriate traffic control response by first responders can make a significant difference in the probability of a secondary incident. This SHRP2 National Traffi Incident Management Responder Training based course provides first responders with the knowledge needed to ensure a well-coordinated response to traffic incidents that achieves faster clearance and improved safety for both responders and motorists.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Describe the purpose of the Strategic Highway Research Program 2 (SHRP 2) National TIM Responder Training Program.
  • Review Traffic Incident Management fundamentals and terminology.
  • Recognize the importance of proper notification and scene size-up report.
  • Select the most appropriate vehicle position in various situations.
  • Identify ways to increase safety at the scene.
  • Describe components of the Incident Command System.
  • Recognize the four components of a Traffic Incident Management Area.
  • Identify safety concerns related to incidents with special circumstances.
  • Describe strategies to quickly clear and breakdown a scene.
  • CERTIFICATE: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be presented with a SHRP2 National Traffic Incident Management ResponderTraining Program Certificate.

    CEUs: This course is eligible for TCOLE, TCFP, TX DSHS EMS, or TDLR TOWING continuing education credits.
