CCT 172 - Equipment Load 6 Tie Down
8 Hours I Maximum 15 Participants

This course aims to equip personnel involved in loading, securing, and transporting equipment on trailers and rollback trucks with the necessary knowledge to perform these tasks safely. The program includes both classroom instruction and a field exercise. The classroom training covers DOT regulations, load distribution, chains and tie-down hardware, tiedown calculations, and safe loading and transportation procedures. In the field segment, participants will inspect a trailer and hauling vehicle, as well as load and secure a piece of construction equipment using the appropriate hardware, chains, and tie-down points.

Certificate:

Upon successful course completion, participants will receive a certificate and card of completion from UTA's Public Works Institute.

CCT 421 - Traffic Control Supervisor
16 Hours I Maximum 20 Participants

This course is designed to serve as an introduction/overview of established traffic control guidelines for maintenance activities and other short-term operations. It is intended for field personnel responsible for the planning, selection, application, and operation of short-term work zones. It addresses the needs of a broad audience: maintenance crews, utility crews, construction personnel, state and local agency staff, and any individual who will work in or near a highway right-of-way. The course covers elements of temporary traffic control found within Chapter 6 of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) such as components of a work zone and their respective requirements, proper application of devices, worker safety, and the use of typical applications most often utilized in short term operations.

Certificate:

Upon successful course completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a card that is valid for 4 years from UTA's Public Works Institute.
Upon successful course completion, participants will earn a digital badge with Credly.

CCT 422 - Traffic Control Supervisor Refresher
8 Hours I Maximum 20 Participants

Prerequisite Required
Prerequisite: Refresher class for those who have taken the full 16-hour Traffic Control Supervisor course. Prerequisite documents from the previous 4 years required.

Certificate:

Upon successful course completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a card that is valid for 4 years from UTA's Public Works Institute.

CCT 801 - Entry Level Driver's Training,
Behind-The-Wheel, Train-The-Trainer
8 Hours I Maximum 30 Participants

Prerequisite Required
This course is designed for Texas cities and counties interested in offering behind-the-wheel entry-level training to their staff. Successful completion of this course will equip participants with the necessary curriculum and tools to deliver behind-the-wheel driver's training to their employees.
Prerequisite: Attendees must possess a VALID Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for at least two years prior to the course start date.

Certificate:

Upon successful course completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion from UTA's Public Works Institute.
Upon successful course completion, participants will earn a digital badge with Credly.

CCT 802 - Entry Level Driver's Training,
Theory Assessment, Knowledge
8 Hours I Maximum 30 Participants

This course is designed for Texas city and county personnel looking to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). The course covers all the knowledge based/ theoretical aspects required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), with thorough testing and assessment. Participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% in this course to electronically confirm their completion of training, enabling them to proceed to the written state exam.

Certificate:

Upon successful course completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion from UTA's Public Works Institute.
Upon successful course completion, participants will earn a digital badge with Credly.

This program is supported through funds provided by The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The Texas Local Technical Assistance Program (TxLTAP) is managed by the University of Texas Arlington's Public Works Institute.

Through training geared to local government circumstances, customized technical assistance, advice provided at events, and a library of resources, TxLTAP provides relevant and impactful information focused on road and bridge/culvert maintenance, the use of traffic control devices and other techniques to promote traffic safety.

Qualified Flagger Training
4 Hours

This TxDOT approved course prepares individuals to perform flagging duties on construction and maintenance projects. It covers the essential responsibilities of a flagger, focusing on traffic control and safety for workers, drivers, and pedestrians through the proper use of equipment, signs, and hand signals. The training meets the requirements of TxDOT Specification Items 7 and 502. Upon successful completion, participants receive a Qualified Flagger wallet card, valid for four years.

Qualified Flagger Training & Trainer
8 Hours

This course is designed to prepare contractor representatives to present the 4-hour Flagger Training course to employees wishing to become qualified flaggers. In addition to basic training in fundamental concepts of work zone traffic control and flagging, adult training techniques will be presented, discussed, and demonstrated. Individuals interested in receiving training or training others as an escort flagger in accordance with Texas law and Chapter 22 of the Basic Peace Officer Course can take this class to meet the new regulatory obligations.

ELC 450 - Roadway Illumination and Electrical Installation

This course is specifically designed to cover all aspects of the electrical installation. Blending the TxDOT specification, electrical details, construction plans and the National Electrical Code in a manner best aligned with the installation process encountered in the field enhances learning and retention of course material. A certification test is administered at the end of the class. Those attendees receiving a certification card will be placed on a state wide list. This course is required for contractor's wishing to bid on state projects. Inspectors are required to check for certification of employees in the field.

Electrical Online

This series of online courses is to extend your electrical certification in order to continue your work on Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) projects. The TRF450 is a required prerequisite.
