Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, Dialysis Technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems as well as maintain and repair equipment. Technicians work with patients during dialysis procedures and monitor and record vital signs as well as administer local anesthetics and drugs as needed. Additionally, they may also be involved in the training of patients for at-home dialysis treatment. Students who successfully complete this couse (classroom and externship) are eligible to sit for the CHET exam offered by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC).
Total Hours: 160 (80 classroom and 80 externship)
Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent, current immunizations, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
