In this class, participants will sort through the steps needed to give themselves the best chance to reach an audience. Participants will do some hands-on editing, create a query and synopsis, and learn how to choose which publishing professionals to contact (for traditional publishing). They will build a spreadsheet for tracking submissions, and practice elevator pitches. The class will also cover strategies for submitting short stories.

Participants will also create a book blurb and learn how to choose a cover designer and editor (for self-publishing). This class will discuss the steps that go into self-publishing, and how to avoid scams. You will also consider how to protect first publication rights when it can seem easy to publish on social media platforms, personal websites and other venues.
