Soils / Flexible Bases and Subgrade Treatments
- Learn Inspection techniques for Embankment, Flexible Base, and Subgrade Treatments construction.
- Analyze Contract Documents pertaining to Embankment. Flexile Base and Subgrade Treatments.
- Distinguish types of soils and aggregates used in roadway construction.
- Identify typical materials used in subgrade treatments.
- Develop and demonstrate common sampling and testing methods used for Inspection of soils, aggregates and treatment materials.
- Develop and demonstrate Inspection documentation techniques.
- Learn the types and capabilities and uses of equipment used in Embankment, Flexible Base, and Subgrade construction.
- Learn Measurement and Payment techniques used for roadway construction projects.

Brett Bennett
Brett Bennett spent 26 years with the Texas Department of Transportation, serving as a construction inspector, and another 6 years as both the instructor and designer of the Inspector Development Program. After retirement, he chose to continue his mission to educate and prepare the next generation of inspectors with the University of Texas at Arlington's, Extension and Extended Campus.
With expert knowledge of highway construction inspection procedures, Brett has extensive experience in ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations. His in-depth understanding of the role of the road inspector has led to the development of workshops that offer valuable opportunities for those in or entering the field.
