HEACNN | Certified Nurse Aide
Certified Nurse Aides provide direct hands-on care for patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or other member of the medical staff. Participants who complete the program will satisfy the Texas Department of Aging and Disability (TDADS) requirements and be eligible to take the State exam while gaining the skills, knowledge and practical experiences to be part of the health care team. HEACMA | Clinical Medical Assistant
The Clinical Medical Assistant course prepares participants to work in private medical practices, hospitals, medical clinics, and other medical facilities. Participants will learn how to schedule medical procedures, take patient medical histories, update patient medical files, measure and record vitals, administer EKG/ECGs, instruct patients on medication usage, collect lab specimens, sterilize medical instruments, plus much more. Total Hours: 300 (140 classroom & 160 externship) Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent, current immunizations, and ability to lift 50 lbs. HEADA | Dental Assistant
This course prepares the student to assist in dental practices. Classroom and practical instruction includes oral health, dental disease prevention, infection control, dental instrumentation, oral anatomy, and assisting in the delivery of dental care and treatment. Upon successful completion, the student is awarded a certificate of completion from UT Arlington. Students interested in becoming registered with the State of Texas must take a state mandated registration course and exam. Certifying bodies may require documents as proof of employment eligibility. All programs include HIPAA, infection control, blood borne pathogens, personal protective equipment and hand washing review. This course offers classroom and practical instruction on obtaining electrocardiograms in healthcare settings. Instruction includes patient preparation, use and maintenance of the electrocardiograph and methods for obtaining an electrocardiogram. Students will also learn how to recognize abnormalities on the electrocardiogram. This course is perfect for the student looking to enter the healthcare field as well as the healthcare professional looking to acquire additional skills. Upon successful completion of the course the student will receive a certificate of completion from UT Arlington and will be eligible to sit for the certification exam with the National Healthcareer Association. The Pharmacy Technician course prepares students to work in pharmaceutical settings, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Classroom and practical areas of instruction include learning to assist a licensed pharmacist in dispensing medications, maintaining inventory, assessing medication orders, pharmacy billing services and providing customer service. Upon successful completion, the student will be awarded a certificate of completion from University of Texas Arlington and is eligible to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. Certifying bodies may require documents as proof of employment eligibility. Total Hours: 200 (120 classroom, 80 externship) Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent and current immunizations. The classroom and practical skills introduced include anatomy and physiology of the blood system, procedures used to obtain various blood specimens, common blood testing, specimen handling and preparation, safety standards, and a controlled skills lab. The course is designed for the student looking to enter the healthcare field as well as the healthcare professional looking to acquire additional skills. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is awarded a certificate of completion from UT Arlington and is eligible to sit for the Phlebotomy Technician certification exam with the National Healthcareer Association. Total Hours: 160 (80 classroom, 80 externship) Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent and current immunizations. The ATI TEAS exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is used by nursing schools to help assess nursing students' knowledge in reading, math, science, and English and language usage. Note: This is a high-level overview of the four exam sections of the ATI TEAS. It is NOT a subject matter course. Students are expected to already have basic skills of English, math, and science. This prep course teaches potent study techniques and test-taking strategies that go beyond basic knowledge. UT Arlington College of Nursing Test Requirements Pre-Licensure BSN students admitted to UT Arlington for the Fall 2017 semester and after - as freshman or transfer students - are required to take the ATI TEAS exam for their standardized admission exam to the upper-division nursing program. HEAVA | Veterinary Assistant
Those enrolled in this course are exposed to all practical aspects of a veterinary practice. Participants learn animal behavior, pharmacology, safety, veterinary nursing techniques, client education skills, basic animal husbandry, wellness plans and veterinary hospital operations. Curriculum follows the guidelines outlined by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association for their Certified Veterinary Assistant Program. The instructor will cover the material for Level I, II and III testing requirements. Upon successful completion of the course, participants are eligible to take the state of Texas certification level 1 examination. Per TVMA requirements, CVA I must complete 6 months practical work experience prior to sitting for CVA Level II examination. Likewise, CVA II must also complete 6 months practical work experience prior to sitting for CVA Level III examination. Total Hours: 628 (128 classroom + 500 externship) Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent, current immunizations, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. Tuition includes: textbook(s), one set of scrubs, placement into a veterinary site for clinicals, and CVA Level I certification exam. |
