Brewing and Fermentation Certificate


The goal of this certificate program is to provide participants with both foundational knowledge about the science of fermentation and brewing, as well as hands-on and practical experience a brew lab. This approach ensures that participants are prepared for careers in brewing by certifying that they have a solid understanding of fermentation science, food safety, operational procedures, product quality, and alcohol compliance. With this knowledge, participants can also pursue careers in broader fields associated with food science.

The program consists of four courses and an internship.

Course One: Science of Brewing

Course Four: Sensory Evaluation and Product Design

*Internship: Brewing and Fermentation
16 Hours | $395

*Internship: Participants must complete an internship at a local fermentation or brewing facility for 16 hours to qualify for the overall certification.

Components of the courses are online and asynchronous with some hands-on workshops to accommodate your work schedule and allows flexibility. An expanded description for each course can be found on the course pages below. Each course will provide readings and recorded lectures or videos over the respective content, including case-studies with real-life applications, and assessments (quizzes, short answer questions, and discussions) to check for understanding. The scientific approach implemented throughout the program will provide participants with a deeper understanding of brewing, fermentation, and their industrial applications. The internship component allows opportunities for participants to learn first-hand and network with professionals in the field, better preparing them for a successful future career.
