Mental Health Technician

The Mental Health Aide course will prepare the student to work with people who are mentally ill, recovering from drug or alcohol addiction, have mental disorders like retardation, or are in crisis of other sorts. Aides work in a variety of venues that can include long-term care facilities, psychiatric hospitals, addiction treatment facilities, standard hospitals, nursing homes and possibly schools for people with mental retardation. They may also be called psychiatric techs, mental health aides, or psychiatric aides. The mental health aide course prepares students to work as a part of a health care team that can include doctors, therapist, psychiatrists, and nurses.
Total Hours: 160 (80 classroom, 80 externship)
Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent and current immunizations.
Fee: Includes textbook(s), CPR certification, and personal liability insurance (externship).
