ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING INSTITUTE

The UT Arlington Division for Enterprise Development's Environmental Training Institute (ETI) offers compliance assistance training for those managing environmental challenges or implementing environmental regulations in Air, Waste, Water and Management. Through training and education, you or your employees can play an active role in your sustainable compliance strategy. Visits from the EPA can be extremely expensive. Avoid paying penalties by educating your workforce. Courses can be taken individually or in support of certificate programs - no need to apply to UT Arlington, simply register for your courses and begin the learning process. Introduction to Environmental Compliance

This course is designed to give environment, safety and health professionals the tools they need to ensure their workplace is in compliance with environmental regulations and reduce environmental risks. The course will cover the basics of environmental regulations and demonstrate how to identify pertinent regulations to your operations. It will also cover elements of the major environmental programs at the State level and review the enforcement and compliance tools by regulatory area. Activities and case studies will be used throughout the course to allow attendees to apply knowledge of the topics discussed during the course.

Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)

This course covers the fundamental requirements of a storm water pollution prevention plan including how to identify your facility’s potential sources of pollution, discharge, or contamination, and methods to prevent and control storm water pollution. From new construction to plant operations, participants will gain an understanding of erosion and sedimentation challenges as well as methods to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SWPPPs.

Wastewater Pretreatment - Strategies and Controls

This course provides an introduction to the wastewater pretreatment regulatory program regulated under the Clean Water Act (CWA). Students will learn the basic requirements and the practical applicability of pretreatment regulations to their operations. Attendees will gain an understanding of when permits are needed and how to effectively implement them to maintain compliance. The course will introduce attendees to the principles, characteristics and operations of wastewater pretreatment technologies used to control environmental impacts. Case studies and class activities will provide the attendees opportunities to apply the principles presented.

Introduction to Water and Wastewater Regulations

This course provides an introduction to the Clean Water Act (CWA) and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), to include the NPDES permit types for storm water, industrial wastewater, domestic wastewater, and pre-treatment. Case studies and class activities will be used to provide opportunities for participants to utilize knowledge gained during the course. The course will facilitate student's ability to attain and maintain compliance with applicable water and wastewater regulations, and to better understand how those regulations impact their organization .

Environmental Management Systems

This updated course specifies general requirements and guidelines of the new ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system (EMS) standard. A fully implemented EMS will provide reasonable assurance of minimal negative environmental impact, improved environmental performance and sustainable growth. EMS can be utilized as a launching pad to move organizations towards sustainability through environmental source reduction, self-regulation and continuous improvement.

Environmental Technology Professional (ETP)
For those looking to capitalize on the growing need for Environmental Technicians, the Environmental Technology Professional (ETP) Certificate Program is designed and developed to provide you with the training essential for an entry level position as an Environmental Technician. Participants are required to complete three required courses and an elective course. After completing these requirements, you are only two (2) additional courses away from completing the Specialist in Environmental Regulations (SER).

Specialist in Environmental Regulations (SER)
This certification introduces three key areas within the environmental industry: Air, Water, and Waste. Earn your SER by completing four (4) required fundamental regulatory courses. Once you complete these requirements, you are only four (4) additional courses away from completing your Environmental Regulatory Professional (ERP) or Environmental Science Professional (ESP) requirements, and five (5) additional courses away from completing your Environmental Management Professional (EMP).

Environmental Regulatory Professional (ERP)
This certificate program focuses on providing a professional with tools to understand and implement environmental regulatory requirements. To receive this designation, the ERP will have completed a set of core required courses and four electives based on their interests and/or industry. Environmental Science Professional (ESP)
For those environmental professionals seeking information on the science behind the regulations, the Environmental Science Professional certificate program has curriculum to support this goal. With a base knowledge of the regulatory requirements, this certificate program includes electives specific to the ESP. A listing of the curriculum requirements is provided below. The ESP certification requirements are met when the four required courses and four electives are completed.

Environmental Management Professional (EMP)
Environmental professionals looking for tools to manage their environmental duties will find this advanced level certification program is aligned with their goals. The management of environmental issues requires skills that include: regulatory knowledge, leadership, communication and planning. This certificate program has courses to support the development of these skills. The EMP certification requirements are met when the six (6) required courses and three (3) electives are completed.

Master Certification (MC) for the Environmental Professional
The Master Certification is our most advanced level of certification with tracks available in Safety and Health, Environmental, and Risk Management. The foundation of this advanced certification is the Management System Design for EHS course made up of three sessions with hands-on application work completed by the participants between sessions. To complete the Master Certification, participants must complete all requirements and required electives in their selected track.
