Community health workers (CHWs) are frontline workers who are trusted members of and/or have a unique and intimate understanding of the communities they serve. Community health workers assist people to gain access to needed services and build individual, community, and system capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, patient navigation and follow-up, community health education and information, informal counseling, social support, advocacy, and participation in clinical research.
Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to apply to the Texas Department of State Health Services for state certfication. Click here

Total Hours: 160 classroom hours.
Prerequisites: High school diploma or equivalent.
