Fundamentals of the Clean Air Act

The Clean Air Act (CAA) requires facilities to implement robust air emission control practices which are regulated and enforced through a complex permitting process. During this class, the instructor will give an overview of the most pertinent CAA requirement including the New Source Review process, Title V permitting, Permit by Rule, and requirements for Hazardous Air Permitting. Using class room activities and presentations with a discussion of compliance and enforcement activities, students will gain an understanding of what requirements may apply to their facility(ies) and the path to compliance.

Diana Lundelius

Diana L. Lundelius, CHMM



Diana Lundelius is currently a Senior Enforcement Officer at USEPA Region 6 in the Air Permitting Enforcement Section. In addition to enforcement case investigations, inspections, and judicial civil referrals, Diana manages the air consent decree tracking program, reviews and responds to alternative monitoring plan requests, and participates in several EPA national air technical work groups. She is also one of two Lean/Six Sigma Black Belts for Region 6. She has 35 years combined experience as an industrial analytical lab chemist and as a multi-media environmental manager, working for municipal and federal government, private industry, and as a consultant. She is a widely published author and presenter in the field of industrial regulatory compliance. Diana has a bachelors degree in biochemistry, and has been a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) since 1999. Before joining EPA in August 2010, she previously received several state and national awards for her achievements in environmental management, and was named a Fellow of the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management in 2013. During her tenure at EPA, she has received the Region 6 annual WE CARE award, two Bronze Medals For Commendable Service, and the Region 6 Innovation Award.
