Intro to CstMnt InspectionDESCRIPTION: The course prepares new construction inspectors on their duties and the different facets of their job. The course consists of using 2004 Specifications, plan sheets, reviewing of testing methods of concrete, and responsibilities of an inspector for steal coating, striping, and more. Basic Hydrology and HydraulicsDESCRIPTION:This course serves as the introductory and pre-requisite course for all other Hydrologic & Hydraulic classes offered through TxDOT. Introduction to Project ManagementDESCRIPTION: Discovering the keys to managing projects successfully when working within the complex mix of tasks and people is an ever increasing skill and demand of project managers within the department. In today's global marketplace, complexity and speed are certainties. In such an environment solid project management practices are essential. Creating clear direction, efficiency, timely response and quality outcomes require project managers to be agile and adept at change. This course serves as an introduction and overview of Project Management. The materials and processes are based on the Project Management Institute (PMI) principles, standards and the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). In this course you will compare the concepts presented based on PMI and PMBOK standards with how you currently manage projects to allow you to improve your methods, and share project management ideas and experiences with others. You will focus on the thought processes behind project management rather than on the specific use of a software package. Project Management - Risk AssessDESCRIPTION:This course will lead participants through the processes, techniques, and philosophies to identify risks, assess their impact on the project, plan for emergencies, manage contingencies, and handling risks in transportation projects. Participants will learn the differences between issues and risks, how to identify risks, their impact, and responses to various risks, strategies to mitigate risk, TxDOT's risk tracking and reporting process, and contingency planning techniques. This course will supplement use of the department's software for managing projects, Primavera Enterprise System (P6).

Project Management - SchedulingDESCRIPTION: This course will lead participants through the processes, techniques, and philosophies to prepare, develop, manage, monitor, and improve the handling of schedules in functional and operational areas as well as in transportation projects. Participants will learn the techniques involved in the development and management of schedule models for the purpose of delivering projects within the allotted time frame and for mobilizing resources in accordance with their defined scopes. Participants will be able to develop a schedule baseline that allows TxDOT managers to track and report schedule variances throughout the life of a project. This course will rely on the use of scheduling tools that includes the department's software for managing projects, Primavera Enterprise System (P6).

| TXD103 | ENV103 Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
Storm Water Pollution Prevention PlanDESCRIPTION:This course consists of on-site inspection of field installed storm water erosion and sediment control best management practices (BMPs). The course includes training on how to complete the associated documentation (TxDOT inspection form) to comply with the Texas Pollution Discharge Elimination System's requirements.Participants will take part in the on-site inspection of a typical TxDOT construction or maintenance project with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWP3) devices in place, and the implementation of the TPDES Construction General Permit. The project's SWP3 is reviewed, compared to actual field conditions and the overall erosion and sediment control strategies on the project are analyzed. Instruction location will be in the area of a current SWP3 project. The project's SWP3 will be reviewed and discussed prior to commencing the field inspection. The TxDOT Area Office or District Maintenance Office will provide access to the project location and the accompanying documentation for initial review. Transportation to the project location will be provided by the TxDOT Area Office or District Maintenance Office. IMPORTANT: Participants must bring steel toed boots, hard hat, safety vest, and should dress appropriately for fieldwork. ENV103 is part of a series of classes designed to provide the tools necessary to achieve effective erosion and sediment control on TxDOT projects: ENV 300, ENV 301, and ENV 103. ENV 300 provides an introduction and overview with a focus on inspection and ENV 301 provides advanced erosion and sediment control design strategies.

Stormwater Eros Sediment Control Day 1DESCRIPTION:This course is designed to qualify field inspectors and design personnel in the appropriate preparation, inspection and implementation of suitable site-specific erosion and sediment control techniques. The course includes storm water design techniques, construction installation, and inspection/maintenance practices required for design and construction staff and environmental coordinators. The course emphasizes erosion and sediment control practices for disturbed areas during construction. All personnel involved in project storm water protection and prevention must recognize available basic and appropriate Best Management Practices. This one-day course is applicable for ALL personnel involved in storm water protection, and prevention. ENV301 covers topics specific to designers of storm water plans. Participants are required to successfully complete an end of course examination proving competency or attainment of the course objectives. ENV300 is part of a series of classes designed to provide the tools necessary to achieve effective erosion and sediment control on TxDOT projects: ENV 300, ENV 301, and ENV 103. Confined Space SafetyDESCRIPTION: This course covers OSHA 1910.146, Confined Spaces, as it pertains to TxDOT and OSHA 1910.47, Lockout/Tagout. Topics covered in the class include identifying a confined space, recognizing hazards, atmospheric testing, entry permit, and lockout/tagout. Each student will also calibrate and operate an air monitor.

| TXDH21 | SFH210 Hazwoper For Clean Up Operations
Hazwoper For Clean Up OperationsDESCRIPTION: The course provides information on the classification, detection, and monitoring of hazardous materials and the use of personal protective equipment and safety practices. A large portion will be hands-on exercises and simulations. The Environmental Protection Agency in 40 CFR 311.1 extended OSHA coverage to state government employees. Other references include 29 CFR 1910.120(e), RCRA and CERCLA. Due to the nature of the activities in this class, it can not be held at the TxDOT facilities. Beards are prohibited because beards hinder the proper wear of respirators.
TRAINING CODE: SFH210 COURSE DURATION (in hours): 40.00 AUDIENCE: Employees required to enter an uncontrolled hazardous waste site as part of their duties, or involved in emergency response operations such as construction inspectors, bridge inspectors, right-of-way inspectors, and courtesy patrols. Hazwoper RefresherDESCRIPTION: This course is the annual refresher designed for employees in hazardous waste clean-up operations (RCRA, CERCLA, and/or voluntary) as per 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(HAZWOPER) who have had the 40-hour course "Hazwoper for Clean-up Operations". The course provides updated information on the classification of hazardous materials, detection and monitoring, the use of protective equipment (including protective suits and breathing apparatus) and the implementation of safety practices. The OSHA coverage was extended to state government employees by the Environmental Protection Agency in 40 CFR 311.1. Participants are required to successfully complete an end of course examination proving competency or attainment of the course objectives. After initial training, refresher training is required annually.

Focus on Safety IVDESCRIPTION: This instructor-led 8-hour course provides information to familiarize students on how to recognize hazards in the workplace and how to prevent unsafe work practices using the TxDOT Safety Process. The course includes required OSHA topics and TxDOT specific topics with an on-line component. Must pass the online prerequisite course SFH398 - Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety and SFH401 with a score of 80%, students to pass the course. After completing SFH398, SFH401 must be completed within 6 months.

TxDOT Electrical Requirements for Installation of Traffic Signal Systems is for the experienced personnel who inspect or install electrical systems for traffic signal installations with or without luminaires on Texas roadways. The course examines TxDOT construction standards and the National Electrical Code (NEC). The emphasis is on the use of TxDOT project plans, Texas Standard Specifications for Construction and Maintenance of Highways, Streets and Bridges, the NEC and concerns in the areas of traffic signals and electrical installation for those signals. The purpose of this series of on-line courses is to extend your electrical certification in order to continue your work on Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) projects.
Cost for each on-line training module is $100 and must be paid only by the use of a valid Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit card. No refunds will be permitted. You must successfully complete a minimum of three (3) modules of your choosing in order to receive a wallet card in the mail from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). The expiration date of this wallet card will be three years from the expiration date of your current wallet card issued by UTA. If you take the module and score between 70-79, you will be permitted to re-take the same module without additional fees. If you take a module and score below 70, you must register, pay and retake the same module again, or a separate module of your choice. You MUST have a valid wallet card or certification number from a previous TxDOT TRF450, TRF453, or TRF e-Learning course before you can register.
